about
So many relationships feel like they deserve your attention, your care. Some demand they stay in your dreams, visiting you when things are finally quiet. They arrive between flow states—the grocery store, gardening, swinging a hammer.
So you remind yourself the version of the person you’re hanging onto doesn’t exist. That person was perfect for you and improving with each year that passes. You’re allowed to look at the past, but you can’t stare.
Breaking Down grew organically out of a few writing sessions. I appreciate how quietly it starts and expands into a full rock song by the end, gradually, steadily. This was our third song with Andy Thompson recorded at The Hideaway. It was mastered by Justin Perkins.
lyrics
There’s the truth and there’s how I choose to remember you
I would trade my life for a minute with that version of you
Can’t think of you without breaking down
Can’t think of you without losing ground
I visit you when my dreams allow, yeah
You’re still in my bones, darling yeah you’re everywhere
You can look to the past but you can’t catch yourself in a stare
Can’t think of you without breaking down
Can’t think of you without losing ground
I visit you when my dreams allow
But I can’t lose what was never found
I think of you and I fall apart
I think of you and I’m right back where I start
I dream of you when I’m not allowed, yeah
Can’t think of you without breaking down
Can’t think of you without losing ground
I visit you when my dreams allow
But I can’t lose what was never found
I think of you and I fall apart
I think of you and I’m right back where I start
I dream of you when I’m not allowed, yeah
